Founded in 1865, Sun Life Financial is a Canadian financial services company that has grown to become one of the largest life insurance and wealth advisory firms in the world. An industry leader with a client base of millions of individuals and thousands of companies, they have nearly 4,000 advisors in more than 1,200 communities across the country helping Canadians achieve lifetime financial security.

MARANT was retained as construction manager following a rigorous selection process. The client was seeking a partner that had the processes in place to drive the value-engineering piece during pre-construction to maximize its budget over significant square footage. Sun Life’s goal was to create a “game changing” insurance company workplace using innovative design concepts and technology.  The raised access floor made possible a largely open plan environment with alternative style meeting rooms and support amenities. The space was constructed using interactive “Digital Canvas” walls, as well as significant IT and audio-visual components throughout the floors.  The 34th floor conference and reception facility has double height ceilings, with numerous SkyFold partitions, a wrap-around deck and a commercial grade kitchen.  Upgrades to the base building services were required to satisfy Sun Life’s requirements.  The project was completed in tranches with two floors turned over every two weeks until total completion of 14 floors on July 1, 2017.

“Managing the sheer number of people who needed to touch this project from Sun Life’s perspective, as well as the consultants and sub-trades was a daunting task.  MARANT’s team did an amazing job of managing the process to keep the project moving forward and on schedule.”
